What I’m doing now

This is my /now page—a living snapshot of where I am, what I’m building, and what’s occupying my time and attention these days.

Where I am

Living and working in Japan (JST / UTC+9). I love the crisp change of seasons here—autumn brings clear skies, cooler weather for outdoor pursuits, and vibrant foliage across the hills.

Engineering Focus

AI-assisted engineering workflows: Actively testing and adopting agentic AI pairs for infrastructure scaffolding, code reviews, and telemetry analysis—accelerating iteration without losing the first-principles understanding of bare-metal systems.

In the Homelab

Having retired my legacy VMware vSAN setup, I've fully settled into Proxmox VE. Next up: passing the HBA directly through via PCIe to a TrueNAS VM and letting ZFS do its thing natively.

On the desk, I’ve adjusted to using a Mac as my primary workstation after nearly two decades on Linux. It offers great hardware efficiency and a clean UNIX environment, while Linux remains the powerhouse underlying every server and homelab machine I run.

Hands-On & Offline

Photography

Mostly focused on daily life across Japan, documenting quiet everyday textures and capturing personal mementos of moments where my kid shines.

In the Garden

Evaluating LinkTap automatic watering systems for the yard. I’m currently mapping out where trenches should be dug to hook up dedicated water lines in each corner, alongside trenching for electrical conduit covering most of the garden.

Evaluating multiple flower, shrub, and vine varieties to naturally suppress weeds between the cracks of a dry-stacked rock retaining wall.

Weighing the pros and cons of growing pyracantha along the perimeter fences for security versus maintenance and scent, currently leaning towards sweeter, more aromatic floral climbers like star jasmine.

Family & Winter Sports

Getting tuned up for skiing once the winter powder arrives in Japan's mountains. Off the slopes, I’m proud to support and guide my kid on their journey discovering computers, safe power tools, and hands-on crafts.

Reading & Studying

I have a copy of Minna no Nihongo (みんなの日本語) sitting on my desk with the goal of opening it at least once a day, though that has admittedly ended up on the back burner as of late.

Professionally, I’m gearing up and prepping for a potentially intense two-month knowledge transfer.
